UBC MEL & MHLP 2019 Student Executive Committee
On the evening of Monday 4th Feb 2019, UBC’s Professional Leadership Masters Degrees students held their annual Student Executive Forum for President & Social Committee elections.
Both Master of Engineering Leadership (MEL) and Master of Health Leadership and Policy (MHLP) students came together to hear the various speeches and proposals from the executive candidates.
The evening was started with an introduction by past president and MEL in Clean Energy Engineering graduate, Diana Aguilar, who spoke of the importance of the roles and their investment and contribution needed to be able to make the necessary impact and value to the cohort.
This was followed by the presidential candidates making their pitch on the ‘soapbox stand’ to the collective cohort. Some of the key speech themes that were spoken of included:
- the integration and connected values between the health care professionals and the engineers
- the creation and development of industry networks and outreach beyond the program
- awareness of organisational opportunities communicated amongst the cohort
- creating a productive and enjoyable working atmosphere within the shared learning experiences and spaces.
After the speeches, the candidates were given the opportunity to take questions from the cohort that covered a broad range of topics from weaknesses, emotional intelligence capabilities and organisational skill sets.
On a lighter note, this was then followed by the social executive candidates. Proposals and themes focussed on fundraising and revue generating proposals, activities, right through to social coordination and integration of cohort event scheduling.
