UBC MHLP - BC Nurses Union Annual Convention

Nurses from across British Columbia gathered in Vancouver at the annual BC Nurses Union member conference this May 27-30. The conference revolved around the significant theme: “the power to lead.”

Throughout the conference, conversation regularly rooted itself in the importance of trust and collaboration when seeking to implement province-wide change for nurses. As a celebrated new contract is put in place across BC, Christine Sorensen, president of the BCNU, emphasized the need for collective hard work as necessary for the success of the new agreement. This contract brings with it a series of positive changes for the nurses of BC.

Innovation is central to a strong health care industry. Health care needs forward-thinking individuals and organizations that have the passion and skillset required to meet the diverse and complex needs of patients, families, and employees.

Professionals generate positive change for health care when they have both strong technical skills and knowledge of business practices. Through the UBC MHLP programs, practicing professionals have the opportunity to further their technical skills while building strong business acumen. Further, students choose to specialize in either Clinical Education or Seniors Care so that they might hone their expertise within their chosen field. With the tools provided by UBC, health care professionals might skillfully develop “the power to lead” and generate the change they wish to see in their industry.
