MEL MHLP student life

The MEL and MHLP student cohort is a vibrant, collegial community of students from around the world.

You’ll quickly make friends with the other students in your program as well as those from the other sector-specific programs, thanks to regular planned social events and impromptu get-togethers. You’ll also benefit from the many opportunities available at UBC, from on-campus clubs and events to speaker series, conferences and workshops.

Experience the UBC campus

The UBC Vancouver campus is breathtaking. This green oasis, perched above the ocean with spectacular views of mountains and ocean, is a city within a city, home to grocery stores, restaurants, a world-class performance arts centre, cafes and a range of essential services. Many students from outside Vancouver choose to live on campus, with Acadia Park offering specific housing options for families.

MEL and MHLP students can take advantage of a designated on-campus studio space to study, catch up with friends, and make use of a fridge and microwave. And when you need a quick dose of nature, nearby Pacific Spirit Park is home to almost 75 kilometres of walking paths, and popular Jericho Beach is just down the hill.

Living in Vancouver

Vancouver has long been recognized as one of the world’s most livable cities. One of Canada’s most ethnically diverse cities, it’s known for its temperate climate, walkable neighbourhoods, incredible restaurants, laidback attitudes, and many sporting and cultural events.

Vancouver is also a gateway to incredible recreational opportunities, with the North Shore mountains just an hour or so away for hiking and mountain biking in the summer, and skiing, snowboarding, snow-shoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter. It's is also home to some of the leading private and public sector organizations working at the forefront of innovation and sustainability, making this a dynamic ecosystem for professionals who want to contribute to a better future.
