Dr. Caren Lombard
Caren is a CFA charterholder and also holds a CPA, CA designation. Originally from South Africa, she holds a Master of Commerce degree from the University of Johannesburg and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Pretoria. Caren is currently pursuing IFRS’s Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting (FSA) credential and has completed Level 1 of the exams.
Prior to switching full-time to a career in post-secondary education, she spent fifteen years in the accounting and finance industries. She started her career as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa. In 2000 Caren moved to Vancouver where she structured mezzanine and other debt financing transactions at BDC's Growth Capital group and at Export Development Canada. Working closely with business owners has given her an enormous respect for entrepreneurs and their journeys as they grow their businesses.
Caren has worked in post-secondary education for thirteen years. She enjoys mentoring students and hopes to inspire more young female students to pursue impactful careers in finance. She has supported the new student led group – Emerging Women in Finance (EWiF) – as a guest speaker and advisory board member.
