Apply for the 2027 MEL and MHLP and learn to lead with confidence

Applications now open for 2027

We are now accepting applications for the January 2027 intake of UBC’s Master of Engineering Leadership (MEL) and Master of Health Leadership and Policy (MHLP) programs.

There has never been a better time to pursue a professional master’s degree that combines sector-specific technical expertise and strategic insight. Top organizations in the public and private sector need leaders who can guide diverse teams, navigate complex issues, and drive meaningful and sustainable change.

With a master’s degree from UBC, you can be the leader they are looking for.

We are consistently ranked as one of the world’s top universities, with noted strengths in engineering, health care and business. Employers in Canada and beyond recognize the value of a credential from UBC and are eager to hire our graduates, knowing that they can step into leadership roles and quickly begin making an impact.

Achieve more with the MEL or MHLP

While there are many different master’s programs to choose from, the MEL and MHLP stand out. Here’s what sets these programs apart:

  • A cross-disciplinary learning experience: Dive into sector-specific courses tailored to your field, paired with leadership and business classes delivered by UBC Sauder School of Business—Canada’s top-ranked business school.
  • A credential that gets noticed: Study at UBC, one of the world’s most respected universities, and which is recognized globally for academic excellence and industry relevance.
  • A network that opens doors: Collaborate with peers who bring rich professional experience and a shared desire to grow – and engage with industry experts through capstone projects or practicum experiences (depending on the program) and exclusive networking events designed for MEL and MHLP students.
  • A launch pad for career transformation: Gain the knowledge, network, credential and skills you need to confidently advance into positions of responsibility and influence.

“The connections you make in this program are beyond measure,” says Lisa Jang, who completed the MHLP in 2022. “MHLP graduates have the skills to really make an impact in their work – which ultimately is all about helping our patients get the best care possible.”

“It’s not easy to change your career path, but the MEL gave me a solid foundation to do so,” adds Wanying Shi, who completed the MEL in Clean Energy Engineering. “I gained the knowledge and skills I needed to pivot into a job where I can use my technical skills and interest in sustainability to make a difference. I really appreciated the freedom I had to explore different areas and learn many new things.”
